How our library came into being

In early 2007, Totnes Library and World Video each agreed to make space for a collection of Transition related books, films and magazines. We compiled a wide ranging list of titles that we’d like to see included, and went out seeking donations from the local business community.

A few months later we had £1,500 worth of ‘Transition Library’ to hand over. Since that time, Totnes Library has added a huge number of other books, and even though we’re not doing much to actively seek donations right now, we keep being given brilliant new books to add.

The result is an abundant set of ‘Sustainable Living’ shelves at Totnes Library and a good selection of free to loan ‘Transition DVDs’ at World Video. The only problem is that some of them are so popular they never get to see the shelves!

There is now a set of 10 copies of the Transition Handbook at Totnes Library, especially for loan to groups throughout Devon. Whether you'd like to read it with a group you're already part of, want to get together with friends, colleagues or acquaintances, or would like to use it with a group you work with, get in touch with Totnes Library (see below) to register as a group and book a time to borrow the set.  

Who can borrow them?

The books can be borrowed like any other library books by any member of Devon Libraries, either at Totnes Library, or by ordering them through any Devon Library (you can set up library reservations online if you have a pin number and a library membership). To borrow the DVDs you just need to join World Video.

Keeping the resource relevant and up to date is now up to you!
