Frank Cook was involved with Health and Wellbeing Group last year while he was doing a masters at Schumacher. I would describe him as a global citizen, he collects plant information and healing stories from around the world, and recently shared some of his knowledge with us:
Eco-Cabins Project
This is an exciting new project from the Building & Housing Group that aims to meet the need for affordable homes in a sustainable way. We are putting together a group to design and build affordable homes that are self sufficient for energy, water and waste and constructed with sustainable materials.
We need people with expertise and, more importantly, enthusiasm, to be involved in any/all of these areas:
1. Planning
2. Funding / Grants
Save energy - save money - and save the planet!
The next TTT Building & Housing Group event looks at 'How to make your home more energy efficient'.
Local people will give short presentations on their experience with insulation, passive solar heating, solar thermal water heating, photovoltaics and geothermal energy. West Country Energy Action will be available to give advice on grants and distribute free low energy light bulbs.
Energy Descent Pathways project-October update
September’s public launch of this project was a resounding success. Over 180 local people joined us for a delightful evening at St. John’s Church Bridgetown where Totnes Mayor, Cllr. Pam Barnes gave generous praise to the work of TTT as she officiated at this event. Click here to read more about the launch and listen to the podcasts recorded on the night.
Totnes Pound Update October 2008
Changes to the team
The Totnes Pound has to say a huge Thank You to Noel Longhurst for the considerable efforts he has made, and the time he has put in, for the Totnes Pound project. Unfortunately Noel has now moved away from Totnes for personal reasons but he is very keen to keep up to date with developments.
Carbon Reduction and Health Conference
A guide to reducing the footprint of the health sector
On June 30th I attended this meeting, jointly organised by the BMJ, Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health, and the Faculty of Public Health. There were at least 200 delegates, many either doctors or senior managers in public health roles in the NHS whose jobs include taking these issues seriously and having the clout to do something about them in their workplaces. This is just a brief summary of the main presentations in a rich and inspiring day.
