General purpose of the group

Energy descent - consciousness ascent!

Hundreds of people have responded to Transition Town Totnes, a community coming together to engage with the unprecedented phenomena of peak oil and climate change. One of several groups that have already formed, the Heart and Soul group is exploring ways to support and inspire us through these challenging and exciting times.

Many believe that transforming our world will mean a deep change of heart and mind, as the transition to sustainability goes far beyond the immediate practical tasks. Themes that have already emerged include:

• bringing psychological awareness and understanding to our view of self, community and the natural world;
• reconnecting with nature;
• expressing how it feels to be alive and engaged at such an uncertain and critical time;
• creating community celebrations;
• learning and sharing skills in communication, group process, interpersonal dynamics, resolving conflict etc. which are needed everywhere in the Transition movement! 
• expanding our capacity for presence, stillness, joy, creativity, empowerment, love, aliveness;
• developing the personal and group skills needed to create an inclusive, empowered and positive future for our world.

Structure and meetings

The Heart and Soul group has regular meetings that everyone is welcome to come to. These are a mixture of business – what’s been happening, what’s coming up, exploration or discussion of a Heart and Soul issue, something experiential, and whatever people in the group want to address. You can find the date of the next meeting on the Calendar of Events, or on our own meetings & events page. There are also write ups of many past meetings.

There is an organising group who are responsible for the overall running of the group, who also meet regularly.

Vision and Purpose

The vision and purpose of a Heart and Soul group can be very wide. We have agreed to keep a flexible, evolving statement of what we are for, what we do and how we do it. See the page about Purpose for some of our explorations of this theme

Projects and Events

The Heart and Soul group have a number of projects running. We sometimes offer skills or processes to people or other TTT projects.  We also help to coordinate and facilitate some of the TTT meetings and discussions.

We also hold events such as talks, discussions, experiential workshops, celebrations and rituals, many at low cost or for donations. See the Heart and Soul meetings & events page for information about what’s coming up and write-ups of past events.
