2020 vision for health and wellbeing in Totnes & District

The following ideas have already been suggested by members of the TTT Health and Wellbeing group. This is a beginning and awaits your input...

A big community medical centre, with mainstream and complementary therapists providing integrated healthcare, treating the whole person and recognising the importance of medicines being tailored to the person and their problem.

A wellbeing clinic for men, women and young people, to encourage the development and maintenance of positive health for all.

The necessary boundaries between practitioner and patient should provide positive connections, not divides. Information on healing processes should be easily accessible.
Health education, including nutrition, bodywork/movement and positive thinking, is an important priority for sustainable health.

Developing a culture of wellness and returning the power of basic health to ordinary people.

Garden space and allotments, and help with their maintenance, for those with mental health issues.

Patient’s groups, to discuss and advise GP practices on issues of concern to their patients.

Far greater knowledge and awareness of herbs in nutrition and medicine.

Locally-grown plant-based medicines to replace mainstream medicines lost because of pressures on production and transport.

Knowledge and use of natural resources and rural skills must be maintained and communicated.

Opportunities for young people to learn how to manage land sustainably, ecologically and compassionately, and to develop the necessary skills, as well as combatting obesity and other disorders of inactivity.

Food and herb gardens in all schools, run and worked by the schoolchildren (work is already being done on this by the “Eco-Active” , “Edible Gardens in Schools”, “Community Supported Farming” and “Trees for Health” groups).

Knowledge and use of natural resources and rural skills must be maintained and communicated.

Sustainability requires diversity: of plants, skills and many other things.
