Report:

It was inspiring watching the "Diggin' It" project on DVD. This is a community garden project in Plymouth, growing organic vegetables and teaching horticulture. The whole community is involved, from school children to disadvantaged members of the community; people who are unemployed or have learning disabilities. Everyone benefits from getting their hands dirty, by learning about growing vegetables and developing a connection with the soil.

We are hoping to borrow some of their ideas in developing our own community garden initiative in Totnes. Our aims for this project are to provide a space where we can enjoy working with the land, creating a productive (herbs and vegetables) yet decorative and peaceful place.  Every gardener will understand the therapeutic effect of working and growing things in the garden and we plan to ensure that those who may not currently have access to their own garden can join in.

We have also been finding out about action that Devon Primary Care Trust are taking in tackling climate change. We hope to offer help and advice and possibly offer to give a presentation on Transition Culture to their staff at a local healthcare facility.
