Healing as Natural Philosophy

What we can learn from an ancient healing tradition grounded in nature.

Mexihka medicine is an ancient healing tradition, but more than this, it’s also a model of an integrated approach to health and wellbeing. This model has been applied in different social settings; from mexico city to rural areas, and is starting to be taught around the world. We hope to take away some inspiration for envisioning our own local and sustainable healthcare for the future.
The holistic Aztec medicine is grounded in the “Filosofia Nahuatl,” which is about living in harmony with ourselves and our environment. Eloxochitl will also be talking about the importance of our connection with the land, especially concerning cultivation of healthy crops, which in turn benefit our health.
Eloxochitl has been working as a healer in San Pablo Tecalco, Mexico, since she was 18. Over 10 years ago she founded the Calpulli Cencalli, a college of Mexihkas, where she teaches traditional medicine, philosophy, the native language, astronomy and mathematics.

The principle of Medicina Mexihka is that all ailments stem from an imbalance; a similar approach to both Chinese and Aryurvedic medicine. The nature of the imbalance can be physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. The philosophy of living in harmony with ourselves and our environment is applied to all areas of life.
Totnes pounds are are welcome at this event.

Meeting Report:

Eloxochitl gave a great inspiring talk giving us a brief introduction into the healing tradition of the Aztecs. We learnt that happiness is essential for health, how you can heal with an egg and how important is our connection with the earth and sky (and rain!). But more than this; Eloxochitl and her team explained how Medicina Mexikha uses acupuncture, massage, herbal remedies and surgery as parts of a comprehensive and holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

Several of us were keen to find out more - Windrose, who organised the talk, suggested organising a workshop run by the UK Medicina Mexikha organisation, Cen Jaotl. Also we could organise a weekend seminar when Eloxochitl returns to the UK.
