Energy Descent Pathways project-October update

September’s public launch of this project was a resounding success. Over 180 local people joined us for a delightful evening at St. John’s Church Bridgetown where Totnes Mayor, Cllr. Pam Barnes gave generous praise to the work  of TTT as she officiated at this event.  Click here to read more about the launch and listen to the podcasts recorded on the night.

Bringing the project further into the public domain, a number of local talks are being given to groups to get people involved and participating in developing the shape and content of the project.  “To ensure the Energy Descent Plan we produce is an authentic voice of the community, we need to be fully inclusive and capture the ideas and views of as many local people as possible” said Jacqi Hodgson, EDP Project Coordinator at a talk to Cornworthy Parish Council earlier this month.  Talks, workshops and information about the project are being widely shared as there is widespread interest in the development of  this Energy Descent Plan.  Local groups etc. are welcome to contact Jacqi to arrange a local talk.

Public workshops " Harnessing the Power of Community" are being planned for next month.  These will build on the earlier future scenarios workshops held with members of TT Totnes’ groups where some of the methodology was discussed and tried out.  Future scenarios assist us in exploring possible futures and provide a creative framework to examine perceptions and assumptions about the future, a very relevant tool for developing an Energy Descent Action Plan.  At the November public workshops, participants will have the opportunity to work through a future scenario exercise where the possible outcomes of business as usual versus willingness to change will be created, putting some of our assumptions to the test and give a peek at how this may impact on Totnes.  Creative imagery where a future Totnes in 2030 will be visualised will also be explored at these workshops, preparing participants for identifying needs and assets 22 years hence.  Click here for more general information about the workshops, click here for the listings and workshop snapshots, and the schedule of these 9 workshops is available here
